Let’s face it, weddings can be expensive, especially when you have a large guest count. Smaller weddings have several advantages, that sometimes are overlooked. I would define a smaller wedding as something under 75 people, Average size weddings are usually 100-150, and large weddings are 175 people and up.
First advantage for a smaller wedding is they are less expensive. Head count drives most of the cost, especially the food or catering cost.
Second advantage to a smaller wedding is that it opens up more options for a better or a more expensive venue if so desired.
Third, smaller weddings are more intimate, people have more time to spend with the bride and groom. In large weddings many times the bride and groom can not get around to everyone.
Fourth, smaller weddings are great for destination weddings. Recently I performed a destination wedding here in Tucson where all of the guests were from out of town. It was a smaller wedding of about 75 people, and I found that it had the feel of a family reunion. They had invited all of the family and friends, so no one felt excluded, and they only paid for 75 people since that is all that were able to make the trip.
These are a few of the advantages to a smaller more intimate wedding. Plus the fact that they are a lot less stressful to begin with.
