Three simple ways to save money on your wedding.
1. Shorten the wedding-planning timeline. By not waiting a year to get married it will be easier to simplify the wedding. You will get discounts from the wedding venue usually for dates that are 4 or 5 months out as most weddings book a year to a year and a half out. The average is 11 months. This will also keep the wedding from getting too elaborate with drives up the cost. It may mean booking a date other than Saturday, but the savings will make it worth the sacrifice.
2. Reduce the guest count. This is the biggest driver of cost, remember bigger is not always better, sometimes the more intimate weddings are more enjoyable. Ask yourself, have you seen this person in the last 5 years, maybe they don’t need to be on the guest list.
3. Look for wedding packages. These will usually save you time and money. Make sure that the prices that are quoted include everything thing so you will be able to make accurate comparisons. Some venues quote a price but don’t include the taxes and gratuity which can add in some cases close to 30% to the price. “Ouch”. Some will not include things like cake cutting, and a number of other costs. In these economic times it is becoming more important to shop around.
One rule of thumb is don’t let the sales person use tactics to pressure you to book their venue when you are not ready or have not had time to compare all options. In some cases it may be a warning sign. Also, remember if it is too good to be true, than it usually is. Beware of those that make fantastic promises, and over inflated claims. It is sad to see Brides who have been promised such wonderful things, and when their wedding date comes around, it turns out to be a pipe dream.
