Tips for Tucson Outdoor Weddings

March 15, 2008 By Dave Hallstrom

tucson outdoor weddingMore and more couples are choosing to have their wedding ceremonies outdoors. Tucson Arizona, is a perfect place for outdoor weddings as they can be done year round. Almost all of the weddings at Saguaro Buttes are done outdoors and over the years we’ve had less than a half a dozen inside because of weather. There are a few things to keep in mind when planning an outdoor wedding.

Make your guests comfortable.

This can be done a number of ways, by selecting a time of the day when the temperature or sun is more comfortable. Also by providing water, or a fan in warmer weather or outdoor space heaters in colder weather.

Always have a backup plan.

At Saguaro Buttes we have the reception hall set and ready to bring the wedding ceremony inside in case of bad weather. We allow the bride to make the final decision as to whether to bring it inside or to do it outdoors. Having a backup plan in case of bad weather is a key to having peace of mind for your wedding day.

Plan for wind.

Wind can cause a number of problems, from blowing dresses and veils to difficulty hearing the ceremony. Wearing heavier material, using more hair spray, instructing the wedding party to help the bride with her dress when it is windy or holding the veil so it is not blowing in the wind, are a few of the things that can be done.

Can you Hear me Now

Outdoor venues are more challenging when it comes to sound and acoustics. It is more difficult to hear the ceremony and the bride and groom as they state their vows. A quality sound system can solve this problem. At Saguaro Buttes we addressed this problem by putting 10 speakers around the ceremony site and mic. both the pastor and the groom. Also having a DJ or sound person that knows how to handle the issues that come up. For instance, when it is windy, it works better to turn the base down, as this eliminates more of the wind noise.Outdoor weddings are beautiful, especially in Arizona’s natural beauty. Always keep in mind some of the above tips and you will have a wonderful event.
